MILWAUKEE, WI... On May 8, 2003, Western States Envelope and Label moved beyond their competition in label printing and laser die cutting technology.

This date is when Western States received the only label press of its kind in the world. The Company was selected as a test site for Mark Andy's DT Series digitally automated printing and laser die cutting system. This label printing and laser die cutting press integrates digital capabilities with traditional flexo print technology. It is a four-color system capable of printing full coverage, at a rate of 80 feet per minute. It also has a 300-dpi resolution with eight levels of grayscale, to give a level of quality comparable to a 150 lpi flexo screening. The DT Series uses digital inkjet technology with a sealed CO2 laser system that doesn't require maintenance. It also uses a single computer interface for ink-jetting and laser die cutting.

There are many ways that Western States' customers will benefit from this new equipment:

  1. There are no plates or dies, which saves customers the cost of a die that is normally required for converting labels.

  2. Since this equipment cuts with laser technology, even the most intricate shapes and repeats can easily be produced.

  3. There is no make-ready, so no time is wasted between jobs.

  4. This system prints and laser die-cuts the labels continuously, without required tooling needed for repeats.

  5. It will fit in even the smallest run, and automatically prints and lasers from one label job to the next without much waste or interruption.

"We are very excited about the new DT Series system. It gives us the opportunity to help our customers get the best labels quickly, at the best price," said Mark Lemberger, President of Western States Envelope & Label.
