Banding
A paper band can be applied to "bunches"
of envelopes to help make sorting or selling easier. Typical banded
counts are 10, 12, 25, 50 or 100, although we can band any quantity
you wish.
Clasps
A double-tongued metal clasp with a reinforced hole
can be added to envelopes that will be opened and closed repeatedly.
Metal clasps can be applied to almost any envelope style, although
it's normally used on open end catalog envelopes. We don't recommend
these clasps on white envelopes, since they will leave a noticeable
mark on the face of the envelope next to it in storage.

Die Cutting (Thumb or Flush)
A full range of die cuts are available. Labels,
folders, books or brochures can all be die cut individually. Holes
or windows can also be added. Thumb Cut
envelopes have a notch at the opening that makes removing contents
easier. Flush Cut envelopes have a straight
cut opening, typically used for filing purposes.
Eyelet Application
Single or multiple metal eyelets may be applied
to sheets, cards or envelopes. Eyelets reinforce a hole so that
an envelope can be hung or secured to another object.
Gumming
Standard re-moistening gun, such as that on an envelope
flap or seal, can be added to sheets of paper or card stock in several
ways. Edge Gumming is applied right to
the edge of the sheet, usually rolled on. Strip Gumming
is where a long strip of gum is pressed on, away from the edge of
the sheet. Spot or Pattern
Gumming is like "letterpress printing" with
gum.
Press-Stik® or Latex Gum
can be applied to paper or envelopes. When these two gummed surfaces
come together, they adhere to each other. Kwik-Tak®
is our Pressure Sensitive Gum with a release
paper that's applied to sheets or envelopes. Once the release paper
is peeled off, the gum surface will adhere permanently to virtually
anything.
Hole Punching or Drilling
Single or multiple holes can be punched or drilled
into sheets, cards or envelopes. This is primarily used for interdepartmental
mail to ensure that no part of the transmitted communications is
overlooked in the envelope. A wide range of hole sizes are available.
Patch Washer
One or several paper patch washers can be added
to sheets, cards or envelopes. Similar to a metal eyelet, the patch
washer has a reinforced patch gummed into position over a hole.
Sheeting
Western States has the capabilities to convert paper,
plastic, or even some metals from rolls to sheets.
String-and-Button
This type of fastener can be added to sheets, cards
or any style of envelopes. It is most typically used on open end
catalog envelopes, or on large over-stuffed envelopes with a long
flap.
Window Pockets
Window materials (glassine or Plasticleer®)
and sulphite paper can be applied to letterhead, envelopes or inside
folders and covers as a pocket to hold additional contents. Special
windows work well with package inserts or product packages to reveal
a product or special feature. We have a wide range of die cutting
and window options available—contact us to discuss your specific
needs.
