WALLET FLAP
A large style seal flap that's approximately the same size and shape as the envelope itself.

WATERMARK
The impression of a design, pattern or symbol on a sheet of paper. When viewed in the light, a watermark appears in the finished sheet as either lighter or darker than the rest of the paper.

WELD SEAM
Weld seams eliminate the die cutting operation and can be produced to permit insertion and trimming in a magazine. The pocket size is determined by the distance between the internal gum lines.

WINDOW
A cut-out in the body of an envelope to show mailing address, return address and/or special messages. Customized windows can be created in the shape of a product or logo. The window material can be colored for greater impact or a more integrated design.

WINDOW PATCH GUM
The adhesive that keeps the plastic film over an envelope's window.

WINDOW POSITION
Location of the window on an envelope, as measured from its left and bottom edges. Window edge should be no closer than 3/8" from the side (to allow space for gluing window material) and 5/8" from the bottom.

WEB ENVELOPE
Envelopes made from roll of paper to finished product. Typically, side seam envelopes and some pointed flap styles are web products.

WEB WIDTH
The measurement of the web that is perpendicular to the machine direction.

WIRE SIDE
The underside of paper, as it is made.

WHITE WOVE
A paper made exclusively for envelope manufacturing.
