RANDOM DIE CUTTING
Maximizing the number of envelopes die cut out of a sheet by changing
the position and direction of the die.
REAM
A measurement containing 500 sheets of paper.
REGULAR
A style of commercial envelope that does not have a window.
REGISTER PRINTING
Fitting two images from different print units on the same envelope
to obtain exact alignment with each other.
REGISTRATION MARKS
Symbols attached to an original copy prior to photography, used
for positioning films or matching two or more colors when printing.
REGULAR ENVELOPE
A style of commercial, official or banker's flap envelope which
does NOT have a window panel.
REMITTANCE ENVELOPE
An envelope with a flap almost as big as the envelope itself. Often
printed on both sides, remittance (aka: collection) envelopes are
designed to allow a customer to fill out an order or pledge information
and enclose a check. They save the expense of having a separate
order form or pledge card. Another similar envelope is know as a
two-way mailer.
RE-MOISTENABLE
Envelope adhesive activated by water or solvent; applied to seal
an envelope flap.
REMOVABLE ADHESIVE
A pressure sensitive adhesive with a low ultimate adhesion and clean
removability from many surfaces.
REPEAT
The printing length of a plate cylinder, determined by one revolution
of the plate cylinder gear.
RESEALABLE
Envelopes with a latex adhesive designed to form a lighter bond,
for multiple sealing and resealing.
RESISTANCE
The ability of a material to resist deteriorating effects of sunlight,
especially ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths.
RESOLUTION
Measures the sharpness of a printed image in dpi (dots per inch).
Typical standards are 200 dpi for a thermal transfer printer and
300 dpi for a laser printer. Proper resolution is critical in barcode
printing.
RUNNING REGISTER
The control on a flexographic press that accurately positions the
printing of each color station in the direction of the web travel.
Also called circumferential register or longitudinal
register.
