Company Description
Western States Envelope & Label is a privately held envelope and label manufacturer. It operates five plants in the greater Midwest serving over 20,000 customers-primarily printers and other resellers. The company is known for its large variety of product offerings, its innovative manufacturing approaches, and its excellent sales and service. The company is headquartered in Butler, Wisconsin, and has over 700 employees and over $100 million in sales.

"Becoming a Climate Leaders partner presents an opportunity to make a difference within the walls of our five operating units as well as the communities we serve," says Western States Envelope & Label President Mark Lemberger. "We have learned over the course of four generations that sustainability and innovation are keys to the future."

Reasons for Joining Climate Leaders
This year (2008), Western States Envelope & Label celebrates 100 years in business. The company recognizes the impact manufacturing has on our environment. Looking to the future, the company sees an opportunity to be sustainable both as a business and a member of the community.

Western States Envelope & Label has already achieved CoC certification for both Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) standards. The company is also completely revamping its internal recycling program with the involvement of all employees.

For the past two decades, Western States Envelope & Label has marketed its brand Recovery-currently 100% post consumer recycled paper, processed 100% chlorine free. In addition, several other lines of products contain the approved minimum recycled content. Western States Envelope & Label works with several designs of reusable envelopes including designs by ecoEnvelopes and MailAgain.

The Climate Leaders program provides a way for Western States Envelope & Label to continue to improve its environmental performance. Working with the EPA and learning from other Climate Leaders partners will help the company lower GHG emissions.

Approach to GHG Management
Western States Envelope & Label expects the greatest GHG inventories in electrical usages of machinery, lighting, and HVAC systems. The company will look at all facets of the business focusing on their environmental impact.
